Chip Tester Pro V2

(13 customer reviews)

$199.00 USD

The Chip Tester Pro is available and usually ships within 1-2 weeks.

The BackBit Chip Tester ups your game with vintage computer diagnosis and repair. Tired of playing a guessing game with swapping chips? Don’t want to risk putting bad chips in a good machine (and vice versa)? Want to do as little desoldering as possible? Then the BackBit Chip Tester is your solution.

If you don’t see the chip you want tested here, it can be added!!!
I will add a test for any chip that I have in my possession. If a part is easily available, I will source it, otherwise if you could let me borrow a working chip that would be helpful. Send an email to backbitio@gmail.com with what you would like tested.

Got mine today!! Serial number 17!! Looks to be a fantastic piece of kit! Seems to be quality everywhere on this device! Did some test and the results are proper. What a fantastic device!! Thanks for creating this! Now I just need to get some test clips and test that piece.
Thanks So Much Evie, you are awesome!!

  2. Dan Goswick (verified owner)

Got Serial number 1! I really like the quality and effort put into this product Evie. Great job! I’m excited about the potential to add many more chips from other systems. It would be cool if there was an easy way for us end users to set up test scripts. Nice work!

  3. Raj W (verified owner)

Serial number 62 (so close to 64! haha!) Very easy to setup and makes chip testing a breeze! The results are clear and accurate. Thank you for making this Evie!

  4. Dean Jenkins (verified owner)

Serial number 277. Evie releases firmware updates roughly once a week with support for more ICs and improvements to testcases. I am keen to use the tester to test the chips in my non-working Commodore 64 (breadbin) which died about 30 years ago! I have tried several times in the past to fix my C64. Now I have the tool to make my diagnostics more effective. Thanks.

    Awesome, just awesome!
    A solidly built device!
Fast to learn and easy to use.
Was testing chips within a few seconds after reading the well written manual!
Easy to understand the well thought out interface and controls.
    Fantastic!

Thanks Evie for this remarkable and very nicely build tester! (my Pro Chiptester build number #284). You are making any retro repair and testing those IC’s especially for Commodore and also standard CMOS/TTL chips a breeze! You even included the well known 555 and 556 chips and also FDC controllers that probably no other tester for this affordable price tests! Hope that many more new free upgrades will expand this already magnificent Pro tester in the near future. Hopefully also for the Commodore Amiga computers.

This is an excellent device. I like it so much I made a stand for it.

#482 arrived in the UK this week!
What an awesome well built device.

Thanks Evie, this has already made my retro restoration journey much easier.

  9. David H

Arrived in the UK on 31st March 🙂

The tester has been invaluable for going through a pile of BBC Micro and RML 380Z board pulls, weeding out a few dodgy ICs – my goodness, this has saved me a whole heap of time.

I’m now going through Unilab Three-Chip-Plus board spares and noticed there isn’t a 4047 IC (monostable) in the database. How does one get a new IC defined? I’m likely to come across other weird and wonderful 4000/7400 ICs. The BBC Micro has weird high speed memory buffers 81LS95 no other buffer IC seems to share the pin out.

Thanks, you can post on the BackBit Forum (forum.backbit.io) with requests for chips to be added.

In my opinion the Chip Tester Pro v2 is the best IC tester on the market. I also believe it to be the best supported with an active forum and quick updates. There were 6 updates in August 2023 and so far in September 2023, there have been 3 and today is 9/12. No other tester I have adds features this quickly. It is also the only one I have that can test registered PAL, timer (555, 556, 558) IC’s and CPU chips. If you are on the fence just buy this one. It is great for reading and testing chips.

  11. Cyberjobe

    Fantastic.

This tester receives a daily update of the supported ics, which makes it a truly great product. I really hope to see support for RAM 2101, CPU 6502A, 65c816 and eprom 2708. Is it hoped to be able to write eprom and prom in the future with a special update?

I’ve had my CTP V2 for over a week and it’s saved my bacon! I was able to diagnose a bad bank of RAM chips in an IBM PC/XT and sort through other RAM on hand. I’ve been testing a big batch of 7475 chips I have. And I verified a XT-IDE ROM as good and backed it up to microSD. Money well spent, I’ll be using this quite a bit.

I received mine yesterday, and started testing suspect chips for my Commodore computers today. I find the tester very easy to use, and it provides reliable and accurate testing results for my needs. The additional feature of being able to rip a ROM is going to be helpful with my projects I work on as a source of learning. I have yet to explore other available features that are included in this device. Great job, Evie!
