Chip Tester Pro V2

The BackBit Chip Tester ups your game with vintage computer diagnosis and repair. Tired of playing a guessing game with swapping chips? Don’t want to risk putting bad chips in a good machine (and vice versa)? Then the BackBit Chip Tester is your solution.

BackBit Pro Cartridge for 8-Bit Systems

The BackBit Pro Cartridge for 8-Bit Systems supports up to 40 systems with available adapters, allowing you to get the best use out of your vintage hardware. One adapter of your choice is included, and additional adapters can expand the functionality to multiple devices (available to purchase separately).

While the BackBit Cartridge and included adapter come fully assembled, additional adapters require through-hole soldering.

DIY 2708 PROM Adapter (for Chip Tester)

DIY means that soldering is required. Comes with unassembled parts.

Allows the Chip Tester to rip a 2708 tri-voltage ROM chip. Does not support EPROM programming.

CornBitXL™ V2 (Programmable ROM)

ROM failure is a common problem in Commodore 64 and related machines. Named in tribute to the KERNAL it’s meant to replace, CornBitXL™ is a 100% compatible ROM replacement for 27128 (16KB) or 27256 (32KB) ROM chips (incl. KERNAL & FUNCTION ROMs for post-breadbin machines, including C128 and PLUS/4). Version 2 adds support for 27256 ROMs.

The first DIP switch selects either 27128 (16KB) or 27256 (32KB) mode. What’s more, the CornBitXL™ has 4 different “slots” activated by the other DIP switches. Use them to have an all-in-one replacement for multiple machines.

BackButton™ for 8-Bit Systems

Wondering what the 3.5mm plug is for on the BackBit Pro cartridge? The BackButton™ is a wired remote which plugs into your BackBit Pro cartridge, allowing you to go back to the menu without reaching to the back of your machine.

Note: NOT for Platinum series cartridge

DIY Dual 30P SIMM Adapter (for Chip Tester Pro)

DIY means that soldering is required (through hole pins only). Comes with unassembled parts.

This 30P SIMM adapter allows you to test 1 or 2 30-pin 5V SIMM (single-sided) modules. Does NOT work on 3.3V SIMMs. Detects size & parity, and performs a full test on all memory cells. If testing 2 SIMMs, they must be matching. For use with the BackBit Chip Tester Pro.

DIY 4116 DRAM Adapter (for Chip Tester)

DIY means that soldering is required (socket and through hole pins only). Comes with unassembled parts.

Soldering Tip: After soldering socket, solder 2 rows of pins (8+1 Pins on each side)

Allows the Chip Tester to diagnose a 4116, 4027, and 4096 tri-voltage DRAM chip.

BackBit Pro Adapter for 8-Bit Systems

Add functionality to your BackBit Pro cartridge! Choose a specific system from the drop-down menu.

Unfortunately, due to time constraints from other products I can no longer provide soldering for adapters included in the normal price. However, if you are unable to solder the adapters yourself, I offer a soldering service. You will need to add “Soldering Service For One Adapter” for EACH adapter you need soldered (other than the adapter included with a cartridge purchase).

While your first adapter that comes included with the BackBit cartridge comes fully assembled, additional adapters require that you solder the 40-pin connector (no fine pitch or surface mount soldering is required). For systems that require it, you will also have to solder an edge connector and/or reset pin. Adapter cases are not included, but STLs are provided here. The only adapter that actually requires a case is the Channel F. Additionally, the ZX81, Timex Sinclair 2068 and ZX Spectrum adapters requires a rotary tool to cut down the sides edge connector after assembly.

Note: Requires a BackBit Pro Cartridge to plug into.

DIY Buffered DRAM Adapter (for Chip Tester Pro)

DIY means that soldering is required (socket and through hole pins only). Comes with unassembled parts.

Soldering Tip: After soldering socket, solder 2 rows of pins (13+1 Pins on each side)

When testing, just plug and play! Works with any DIP package from 16 to 20 pins.

DIY CartRip™ (for Chip Tester)

DIY means that soldering is required. Comes with unassembled parts.

The CartRip™ adapter, used in conjunction with the BackBit Chip Tester allows you to rip a variety of cartridges to a binary file on the inserted Micro SD card.
